Pulmonary rehabilitation is a structured program combining exercise, education and support.
The program is delivered at community health centres and includes supervised exercise and education sessions.
Aims of the program
- Improve quality of life
- Increase and maintain daily function
- Improve understanding of respiratory disease
- Improve exercise tolerance
- Reduce hospital admissions
Who can access the program
Pulmonary rehabilitation is for people with diagnosed chronic lung conditions, including:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Emphysema
- Chronic bronchitis
- Asthma
- Bronchiectasis
- Interstitial lung disease (fibrosis)
- Other chronic or complex lung conditions
To take part, you may need to be able to safely participate in exercise activities. Suitability is assessed by the clinical team before starting the program.
How to access the program
A referral from a general practitioner (GP) or respiratory specialist is required to attend the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
