Audiology services are provided at both Gosford and Wyong Hospitals. Services are available to people of all ages including children from 10 months (corrected if premature).
Waiting times vary depending on demand, priority will be given to children under six years of age.
What we offer
We offer a range of audiometric tests designed for different age groups and developmental stages. We provide hearing assessments, non-medical management of hearing loss and information on hearing-related issues. We are unable to provide hearing aids.
Our assessments include:
- Otoscopy: Visual examination of the ear canal and eardrum to identify any obstructions or abnormalities.
- Tympanometry: Measures middle ear function by assessing eardrum movement.
- Visual Reinforcement Orientation Audiometry (VROA): For infants aged 10 months and older, using visual stimuli to assess hearing response.
- Play Audiometry: For young children, incorporating play-based activities to evaluate hearing.
- Pure Tone Audiometry: For older children and adults, providing precise threshold measurements across various frequencies.
Referral process
Referrals are accepted from healthcare providers, including GPs, ENT specialists, and other allied health professionals. Please note that you can also self-refer – medical referrals are welcome but not mandatory.
- Referrals should include relevant patient history, reason for referral, and any previous audiological assessments from external providers if available. Referrals can be emailed or faxed.
- Self-referrals: Send an email to CCLHD-AUDIOLOGY@health.nsw.gov.au with the name and date of birth of the patient, the primary reason for assessment and any previous audiology assessments from external providers if available.
- For paediatric patients: If you are concerned about your child’s hearing, please contact your GP or Child and Family Health Nurse in the first instance.
Sudden hearing loss
Sudden hearing loss is a medical emergency. Please seek an urgent appointment with your GP or present to your nearest hospital emergency department.
