Expression of Interest: Membership of NSW Coal Ash and Health Community Advisory Committee
Are you a resident of the Lake Macquarie or Lake Munmorah regions? Do you want to contribute to your community?
NSW Health is establishing a new Community Advisory Committee (CAC).
This committee is being formed to support the NSW government response to the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into costs for remediation of sites containing coal ash repositories (PDF). The committee will provide a forum for open dialogue between NSW Health and representatives of the local community, stakeholder groups and local councils on the potential health impacts of coal ash.
In response to the Inquiry’s recommendations, NSW Health has commissioned a review of environmental data to determine whether people living close to power stations and coal ash dams are exposed to potentially harmful chemicals through air, water, soil or local fish and seafood. This study aims to improve understanding about the possible effects of coal ash dams on the health of residents.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals and members of local civic, professional, and environmental groups to contribute their valuable insights and expertise. The committee will be chaired by an independent facilitator and supported by advisors from relevant agencies. Please note that employees and contractors of government agencies are not eligible for appointment to the committee as a community representative.
Your role as a committee member will be voluntary.
You will be expected to contribute constructively to committee discussions, attend around four meetings a year, and help communicate information about the coal ash study to the broader community. NSW Health intends that this be a time-limited group that will continue until a response to the coal ash Inquiry is completed.
For further information, or to obtain a nomination form, please contact the Independent Chair, David Ross, on 0402 060 649.
Completed nominations must be sent by 6 December 2024 to the independent Chair of the Community Advisory Committee:
