Osteoporosis Refracture Prevention Service
The Osteoporosis Refracture Prevention Service supports people aged 50 to 75 who have had a fracture caused by a minor fall or injury due to weak bones (osteoporosis). The service aims to help you reduce the risk of future fractures.
The service provides assessment, investigation, treatment and follow-up care to improve bone health, falls prevention and support long-term wellbeing.
How this service can help
The service provides:
- Bone health assessment
- Falls risk screening
- Support to reduce future fracture risk
- Assessment and treatment for osteoporosis
- Advice on exercise, nutrition and lifestyle
Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team, which includes an endocrinologist, physiotherapist and specialist registered nurses.
Who can access this service
To be eligible for this service, you must:
- Be aged 50 to 75, and
- Have attended the emergency department at Wyong or Gosford hospitals after a fracture caused by a minor fall or injury
The clinical team will also consider factors such as:
- Risk of further fractures
- A vertebral fracture identified on a CT scan or X-ray
Suitability for the clinic will be assessed by the clinical team. If appropriate, a clinician will contact you to arrange an appointment.
