What is COPD?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a long‑term lung condition that makes it harder to breathe. It is usually caused by long‑term irritation of the airways, most commonly from smoking, but may also be linked to environmental or occupational exposure.
COPD includes conditions such as:
- Chronic bronchitis
- Emphysema
- Airway narrowing
COPD is a long‑term condition, but with the right support many people are able to manage symptoms, stay active and improve their quality of life.
