Cardiac rehabilitation supports people to recover after a heart event such as heart attack, heart surgery or a heart procedure.
The program combines exercise, education and support to help you improve your heart health, build confidence and reduce the risk of future heart problems.
Who can access this service
Cardiac rehabilitation may help if you:
- have had a heart attack or angina
- have had heart surgery or a heart procedure
- are living with a heart condition
- Want to improve your fitness, confidence and heart health
You can still benefit from cardiac rehabilitation even if some time has passed since leaving hospital.

Your program is supervised by trained cardiac and allied health staff and tailored to your needs.
Cardiac rehabilitation program
A structured six-week program is available at Wyong and Woy Woy hospitals.
The program includes supervised exercise and education sessions held twice a week to support your recovery and long-term heart health.
What you will learn
During the program, you will learn how to:
- Exercise safely
- Eat well and manage your weight
- Quit smoking, if needed
- Manage other conditions such as high blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes
- Recognise warning signs and what to do in an emergency
- Manage stress, anxiety or low mood
How to access the service
A referral is required to access this service.
Referrals can be made by:
- Hospital teams
- General practitioners (GPs)
- Specialists
