Palliative care is the total care of people who have a condition that is incurable and will shorten their lives. It focuses on maintaining a quality of life through the provision of expert advice, symptom management and support.
The Central Coast Specialist Palliative Care Service works in collaboration with general practitioners and treating medical specialists to manage complex care issues.

Gosford Hospital Palliative Care Services
At Gosford Hospital we offer:
- Palliative Care consultation service (medical referral required)
- Palliative Care Unit (A5)
Access to the Palliative Care Unit (A5) at Gosford Hospital is based on specific admission criteria, these consider your individual needs and required treatments. If you’d like to find out whether you or someone else may be eligible, please speak with your GP or specialist, as a referral to the Palliative Care Service might be necessary.
At times, all beds in the unit may be occupied. In such cases, you may be admitted to another hospital ward initially. However, the palliative care team provides a consultation service and can still support your care wherever you are in the hospital.
