Mental Health

Adult Mental Health

Adult Mental Health provides a service for people aged over the age of 18 years experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems. These services can be provided in the community and in hospital.

In the community

There are a number of different adult community mental health teams. These are outlined below.

Care Coordination Team

Provides clinical interventions, psychological therapies, group programs, support and education to consumers, carers and family members with the goal of improving the consumer’s mental and physical health.  Works very closely with community partners of health care, with the client and their GP to assist in recovery.

Assertive Outreach Team

Assists people who are seriously affected by mental illness to live as independently as possible in their own home. This team provides assertive community treatment to clients needing medium to long-term care.

Aboriginal Mental Health team

Works alongside clinicians within the Central Coast Mental Health Service in a liaison role to provide cultural input and to support the delivery of mental health services to Aboriginal clients.  This team also provides support and advocacy to clients – such as liaising with other government departments and referring to Non-Government Organisation (NGO) support services.  It provides support and education to families, carers and community members as well as cultural awareness training and education to mental health staff.

If an Aboriginal person (yourself, a family member or friend, a client of your service) is referred to the Central Coast Mental Health Service, ask for the Aboriginal Mental Health Team to be contacted.

Eating disorders service

The Eating Disorders Outpatient Service is an early intervention service for people with eating disorders, their families and also people who are at risk of developing an eating disorder.

In hospital

Inpatient units

There are acute mental health inpatient units located at both Gosford and Wyong hospitals in the Mental Health Centres.

Consultation Liaison Team

Provides a consultation service to general hospital staff for patients with a mental illness or for patients experiencing psychological stress during their hospital stay.
