Medical imaging refers to different technologies that are used to view the human body in order to diagnose, monitor, or treat medical conditions. This can include radiology (which uses imaging technology like X-rays, ultrasounds, computed tomography known as CT, and magnetic resonance known as MRI) as well as Nuclear Medicine (which uses small amounts of radioactive substances known as isotopes) and BMD (bone mineral densitometry).
The Department of Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine at Gosford and Wyong hospitals provides 24/7 emergency and inpatient services to the Central Coast community, including X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, MRIs, BMD and Nuclear Medicine.
You don’t need to be a hospital patient to access our imaging services. We accept referrals from your GP or specialist, which can be emailed to CCLHD-MIBookings@health.nsw.gov.au. Once we have received your referral, we will contact you to arrange your appointment.
Need an X-ray? No need for an appointment. We accept walk-ins. Remember to bring your referral from your GP or specialist.
All Medicare eligible examinations are bulk-billed, including MRI, with no gap payment. Please speak to your referring doctor for details on what is eligible.
Examinations that are not Medicare eligible will attract a flat fee.
