If you are unwell before your surgery

If your clinical condition changes you should notify your GP, your specialist or the hospital as soon as possible. Changes in your condition or general health may have implications for the timing of your procedure or lead to your clinical priority category being re-assessed. If you experience flu-like symptoms at any time during the four days prior to your scheduled surgery contact 02 4320 2323.

People with influenza typically experience some or all of the following symptoms for at least a week:

  • Fever and chills
  • Cough, sore throat and runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches, joint pains, headaches and fatigue (feeling very tired)
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in children than adults).

The NSW Health flu factsheet provides more information about influenza.
