GradStart

Applications for the GradStart Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife Program are open from 17 – 30 June 2025.

Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) welcomes new graduate nurses and midwives every year, offering a supportive program, striving to create a positive environment for you to transition from student to practitioner. We also offer a limited number Transition to Professional Practice Program (TTP2) for suitable second year Registered Nurses following completion of their GradStart year.

Central Coast Health offers a General Entry Program across a range of facilities at Gosford, Wyong and Woy Woy Hospitals including Medical, Surgical and Acute Geriatrics as well as services across the region from Cancer Services, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol and Community Health. Graduates can also apply for Direct Entry Programs within Cancer Services, Older Persons, Peri operative, Emergency, Community and Mental Health.

A limited number of Metro-Rural Exchange Grad Start positions are also available, allowing successful applicants to complete two 6 month rotations. The first rotation is completed at Central Coast Health in the Emergency Department before applicants rotate to Broken Hill, in Far West Local Health District.

Eligibility and application information

Are you eligible to apply for graduate employment with NSW Health? You must:

  • Be completing nursing or midwifery degree between 1 June 2024 and 31 May 2025
  • Meet all the requirements to become a registered nurse or registered midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) before the date you’ll start work
  • Be an Australian Citizen or hold a visa allowing ongoing full-time employment in Australia.

Registered Nurses

  • Two intakes (February and July)
  • Permanent positions offered to Australian residents and temporary contracts offered to visa applicants. Part-time positions available at 32 hours per week and other hours as negotiated.
  • Positions in acute and sub-acute facilities (Wyong, Gosford, Woy Woy Hospitals and Community Nursing)
  • Rotations in a range of services including; medical, surgical, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, perioperative, community nursing, emergency department, paediatrics, coronary care, cancer services, medical imaging as well as drug and alcohol services
  • 12-month direct entry programs available in Emergency Department, Mental Health, Perioperative, Cancer and Older Persons and Community.

Registered Midwives

  • One intake (February)
  • Positions at Gosford Hospital with rotations in antenatal clinics, birthing suite and maternity ward and postnatal home visiting (MSP).
