Child Safe Standards

Implementing Child Safe Standards – workshops to consult children and young people

What are we doing?

We want to hear from our youngest service users to make sure we have a health service that is safe and helps them when they need it. We all know that going to hospital or a health service can be hard when you’re a grown up, but it can be harder or scarier if you’re a kid. We want to hear what might make that experience better and how we can set up ways that children and teenagers can tell us how we can be better.

We will be holding one-off workshops for children and young people to share their ideas and experiences. These workshops will help us create health services that are safe, welcoming and shaped by the people who use them.

What will it involve?

We will run two fun and interactive face-to-face workshops.

When: Friday 27 March 2026

Where: Wyong Central community Health Centre (more details will be provided to participating applicants).

Each child or young person will be invited to attend one session based on their age group:

  • Primary school workshop – ages 7 to 12

Time: 9am to 11am

  • High School Workshop – ages 13 to 18

Time: 12pm to 3 pm

Please note: Travel costs and transport to and from the workshop will need to be arranged by participants and will not be reimbursed.

Who can take part?

We want to hear from children and young people aged 7 to 18 who have had any experience with the health system, such as:

  • being a patient
  • having a family member who received care
  • visiting a hospital or health service.

We are looking for kids and young people from all backgrounds who can share their ideas and help us make health care better.

What will we be doing in the workshops?

In the workshops, children and young people will be asked to:

  • Share their ideas – their voice helps us improve health services.
  • Listen and respect others – everyone’s opinions matter.
  • Join in the activities – the sessions will be fun, creative, and interactive.
  • Stay for the whole workshop so we can hear all their great ideas.

How we will thank participants

To thank participants for taking part and for sharing their ideas and experiences, each participant will be emailed an e-gift card. These gift cards can be used at a range of different retailers.

  • Primary school aged (ages 7–12) will receive a $30 e-gift card.
  • High school aged (ages 13–18) will receive a $45 e-gift card.
  • Free parking will be available.
  • A staff member will be assigned to support you before and during the activity.
