Robert’s Story.
“I started my career as an Anaesthetist in Sydney and then moved to the Coast with my young family in 1989. I saw a growing region and a hospital that had so many possibilities for my career to flourish. Since moving to the coast I’ve watching my children grow up and seen my career take many different directions. I’ve had the chance to grow my clinical capacity in many levels and been given various leadership roles including head of department. Around five years ago, I took on a new role in medical education as the Director of Prevocational Education and Training. I think one of the most fulfilling parts of my job is meeting the new interns who come in with big dreams for their future and helping them to put legs on those dreams. They can be with us for a number of years so I can literally see them grow. I love to be able to sit down and have the conversations about all the practical steps that it’s going to take to get to where they want to go and then watching them start to gain the experience they need for their aspirations to become a reality.”
