Child and family health nursing services

Child and family health nurses offer a service to families with children 0 to 5 years and work with families to provide support, information, education, advice and developmental screening


Child and family health clinics are located in our community health centres.

Parents first contact with a child and family health nurse is often during a home visit before the baby is two weeks old. This home visit will include the Personal Health Record (Blue) Book one to four week health check.

Following the first home visit parents are encouraged to attend parenting groups and child and family health clinics for their child's health checks as per the Personal Health record (Blue Book) at:

  • 6 to 8 weeks
  • 6 months
  • 12 months
  • 18 months
  • then at age 2 years, 3 years and 4 years.

The following parenting groups are facilitated by a child and family health nurse at the early childhood health clinics.

‘Drop’ in clinics

Families can attend Child and family health ‘drop in’ clinics for parenting support or concerns for children aged 0 to 5 years. Appointments are required for personal health checks.

Kullaroo child and family health clinic

Kullaroo is an alcohol and other drug service. A child and family health nurse offers an early childhood health service on Wednesdays and Fridays at Kullaroo clinic to families with a parent on the opiate management program and children aged 0 to 5 years.

The service provides advice, support, information, education, and developmental screening.
